Harvey Keitel is the son of Romanian-born mother Miriam Keitel (1911-1987) and Polish-born father Harry Keitel. Harvey Keitel was the youngest child of Jewish immigrants. While his parents ran a luncheonette, his father created hats. Harvey Keitel grew raised in Brighton Beach, Brooklyn, together with his older sister Renee and his older brother Jerry. He attended Abraham Lincoln High School. He joined the Marines at the age of 17.
